Overview

CQ’s 3770 SNA/RJE and 3270 SNA interactive connectivity solutions configured for Microsoft’s® Data Link Control (DLC) Interface connections are compatible with several of the industry’s most advanced Ethernet NICs and Token Ring adapter cards.

CQ connectivity solutions configured for use with Ethernet NICs and Token Ring adapter cards provide reliable, high-speed connections over routed networks, including Frame Relay, ATM, and ISDN networks.  CQ connectivity solutions include the CQ-3770® and CQ-3270® solutions for most Windows® 32-bit operating systems.

The DLC Interface is supported by Microsoft’s Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT®, Windows 2000, and Windows XP* operating systems.  For network server users, the DLC Interface is fully supported by Microsoft’s Windows NT Server 4.0 and Windows 2000 Server.

According to Microsoft’s web site, the DLC protocol is not available in Windows XP and support for the DLC protocol has been discontinued in Windows XP. However, a Windows XP version of the DLC protocol is available free for download, although the DLC protocol may not work properly with Windows XP and Microsoft does not support the DLC protocol with Windows XP. As a result of Microsoft’s policy, CQ solutions using the DLC protocol under Windows XP may be limited. CQ does not claim that the DLC version of its solution will run error-free or without incidents in Windows XP, only that CQ software support provided by CQ for DLC connections running in Windows XP is subject to and limited by Microsoft’s policy for running DLC connections in Windows XP.

Ethernet NICs

CQ’s Ethernet connectivity solutions provide reliable host communications at extremely high speeds through CQ’s communications driver for the Microsoft DLC Interface.  CQ’s solutions support high-speed Ethernet connections with the appropriate Ethernet NIC installed in the PC.

CQ’s connectivity solutions support many Ethernet NICs, including the 3Com® EtherLink® PCI NIC (Part No. 3C905CX-TX-M).  Contact CQ for information on other Ethernet NICs supported.

Token Ring Adapter Cards

CQ’s Token Ring connectivity solutions provide reliable host communications at extremely high speeds through CQ’s communications driver for the Microsoft DLC Interface.  CQ’s solutions support high-speed Token Ring Interface Coupler (TIC) connections with the appropriate Token Ring adapter card installed in the PC.

CQ’s connectivity solutions support many Token Ring adapter cards, including the Madge® Smart MK4 PCI Token Ring adapter card (Part No. 51-05).  Contact CQ for information on other Token Ring adapter cards supported.
